Josh McLaughlin joined SK Life Science, Inc. in 2020 and is the Company’s General Counsel and Head of Legal and Compliance. With a deep knowledge of the industry and strong history of legal leadership, Josh plays a critical role in guiding our organization’s legal strategy and ensuring compliance across all aspects of our operations.

As head of the Office of the General Counsel, Josh safeguards SK Life Science’s legal and ethical integrity. The business function Josh leads includes:

• Legal: Responsible for providing all legal advice, contract review, and risk mitigation strategies across all business operations. The Legal team supports investigations of breaches of policy and laws and subsequent discipline with the HR team and business leaders. The Legal team also reviews marketing materials and tactics as part of the PMRC process to ensure materials and activities are compliant with applicable law and company policies.
• Compliance: Develops many of the Company’s policies and procedures to ensure that SKLSI operates in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and, especially in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. The Compliance team monitors many external Company activities and programs (including field force activities and speaker programs), reviews certain business activities (such as sponsorships, advisory boards, and other activities with HCPs), sets the fair market value rates for engaging HCPs and patients, collects and reports transfer of values in accordance with the Sunshine Act, evaluates the Company’s controls, supports company-wide risk assessment activities, executes the SK Group Compliance program activities, and works with audit teams from SKBP and SUPEX to support audits of SKLSI.  The Compliance team also oversees the Company’s anonymous compliance reporting hotline and tracks and investigates (along with HR and Legal) alleged breaches of company policies or laws or regulations.
• Corporate Communications: This team manages external communications including media relations and helps with the management of the Company’s reputation. This team also is responsible for internal communications and partners closely with HR on internal initiatives to support company culture, change management, and employee engagement efforts.  The Corporate Communications team also carries out media and social media monitoring.
• Strategic Sourcing/Contracts Management:  This team manages the Company’s procurement and contracting policies, processes and systems and manages the Procurement Excellence Team which supports business units in initiating and completing transactions.  Strategic sourcing also provides support to the business units in Procurement and contracting activities, manages contract templates, vendor selection and vendor management issues.  Strategic Sourcing also reviews transactions and issues to ensure that business units are following the appropriate processes.
• Government Contracts and Price Transparency: This team is responsible for tracking and reporting product pricing to the government and developing product price information to comply with state reporting obligations.
• Privacy: This team is responsible for managing the company’s Data Privacy program, including the company’s privacy policy, review of data being collected on external websites and managing any data breach issues.

Throughout his career, Josh has successfully advised clients on complex legal and business matters in the pharmaceutical industry, including business development, M&A transactions and integrations, R&D matters, Commercial issues, intellectual property, and compliance. Josh is driven by a strong commitment to integrity, ethics, continuous learning and enjoys finding practical solutions to complex problems.

Prior to joining the Company, Josh spent about 14 years with Bristol-Myers Squibb Company in senior executive legal roles advising company leaders around the world in areas such as R&D, Commercial and Business Development.

Josh earned his Bachelors degree in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from UC San Diego and has law degrees from Thomas Jefferson School of Law (J.D.) and University of San Diego School of Law (LL.M. – Intellectual Property).
