Sunita Misra, MD, PhD

Vice President of Global Clinical Development and Chief Medical Officer

Sunita Misra, MD, PhD joined the SK Life Science, Inc. team in 2023 initially supporting the ongoing clinical studies. Her deep experience as a clinician and researcher in pediatric epilepsy has enabled Dr. Misra to guide the organization’s clinical development strategy.

As VP of Global Clinical Development and Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Misra leads the development of SKLSI’s clinical-stage programs from Phase 1 through post-marketing and provides scientific and medical information to stakeholders. Key components of the business function she leads include:

  • Clinical Development: Designs clinical trials, provides medical monitoring and leads the clinical aspects of clinical studies.
  • Clinical Operations: Manages clinical trials, oversees site engagement, monitors data collection, and ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Medical Affairs: Engages with healthcare professionals, supports scientific exchange, develops publication strategies, and facilitates medical education.
  • Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology: Evaluates drug safety and efficacy during development through preclinical and clinical pharmacologic assessments, helps determine optimal doses for drugs in development.
  • Statistics and Data Management: Provides statistical design, analysis, and data handling services to ensure robust and reliable trial outcomes.

Dr. Misra earned her Bachelor’s degree at Emory University and her MD and PhD in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University. From there, she completed a pediatric neurology residency and fellowships in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Misra then joined the faculty at Northwestern University as a physician-scientist. She cared for drug-resistant pediatric epilepsy patients at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and conducted research on genetic causes of pediatric epilepsy.  Prior to joining the SK Life Science, Inc. team, Dr. Misra held a position at Neurelis, Inc. supporting CNS indications with a focus on epilepsy.
